Prince Harry’s Engagement Suit Is Just What You Should Wear on Your Big Day

The right shade of blue.

Meghan Markle has her “something blue” on lock. Today the actress and Prince Harry announced their engagement, after a year of publicly dating, with a statement from Prince Charles and a photo shoot at Kensington Palace. The 33-year-old prince looked impeccable, which is no surprise—when you’ve got a dad as swaggy as Charles and what we can only assume is a SWAT team of tailors at your beck and call, your suit always fits. But it should be mentioned that the medium-blue color of Harry’s suit was an especially great choice. It was less serious than traditional navy, the color Prince William wore for his engagement photos, without going full, flashy royal blue, a.k.a. the color celebrities and guys at Pitti Uomo love to flex in. You could call the shade Yale blue, presidential blue, or even a dark steel blue. Regardless, it conveyed the right amount of cheeriness for the occasion and reverence for a historic moment in the British royal family’s history.

Even though you probably aren’t a royal, it’s still a great idea to follow Prince Harry’s lead here and buy a suit in just the same color for your own big life moments, or even little moments. Style it like Harry, too—with a crisp white dress shirt and slim navy tie to keep things fresh and modern, and a pair of black wingtips to maintain the formality—and you’ll be the picture of class (and never have to worry about looking back at the photos with shame). Prince Harry loves to wear bracelets, so he kept one on his wrist for engagement photos. May we all be so free! If you’ve got a piece of jewelry that’s close to your heart, by all means wear it. If that piece of jewelry happens to be a Charles-level pinkie ring, you just earned extra style points from us.

To help you in your search for the perfect happy-but-respectful blue suit, here are a few suggestions. We kept the prices under control for those of you who don’t call Kensington Palace home.
