Oscar Pistorius Lenient Sentence Shocks Prosecutors

South Africa’s state prosecutors on Friday, described the six-year sentence for murder given to Paralympic gold medalist, Oscar Pistorius as `shockingly lenient’.

The prosecutors are asking the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) for the right to launch an appeal against the judgment.

Pistorius was imprisoned in July last year after being found guilty on appeal of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day in 2013. The case has attracted worldwide interest.

He was not in court for Friday’s hearing.

Women’s rights groups in the country, beset by high levels of violent crime against women, say Pistorius has received preferential treatment compared to non-whites and those without his wealth or international celebrity status.

The athlete was originally convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to five years in jail.

That conviction was increased to murder by the SCA in December 2015, and his sentence increased to six years by a trial judge, Thokozile Masipa.

The state prosecutors, led by advocate Andrea Johnson, said that the sentence by Masipa was too lenient as the jail term was less than half the minimum 15-year sentence prescribed for murder in South Africa.

Johnson said that the high court did not list substantial and compelling factors for deviating from the 15-year sentence and that Pistorius had not shown remorse for the murder.

“There is no true, gut-wrenching remorse,” Johnson said.

“It is shockingly lenient and has accordingly resulted in injustice,” she said.

However, counsel to Pistorius, known as the “Blade Runner” for his carbon-fiber prosthetics, said that he did not deliberately kill model and law graduate Steenkamp.

Barry Roux, the lead defense lawyer for Pistorius, said that the athlete was suffering from severe and worsening post-traumatic stress disorder over the case.

Roux said that Masipa had addressed the misperception that Pistorius deliberately killed Steenkamp.

“Leave to appeal should really not be granted,” he said.

The court did not set a date for when it will rule on whether the appeal can be heard or not.

Settle Your Rift And Save Music Career, Kennis Music Advises P-Square

Kenny Ogungbe, the Chief Executive Officer, Kennis Music, on Saturday advised P-Square to urgently resolve their differences, saying the raging rift could ruin their music careers.

Ogungbe gave the advice in an interview with newsmen on the sidelines of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2017 in Lagos.

Newsmen report that news was rife on the breakup of the two music stars, 35-year-old identical twin brothers, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye, after irreconcilable differences.

According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, P-Square is a Nigerian R&B duo of identical twin brothers, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye.

“They produced and released their albums through Square Records. In December 2011, they signed a record deal with Akon’s Konvict Muzik label.”

“In May 2012, they signed a record distribution deal with Universal Music’s South African branch.”

“On Sept. 25, 2017, numerous media outlets reported that the group was disbanded. Reports about a breakup surfaced after Peter reportedly sent a termination letter to the group’s lawyer.”

“Prior to this report, the duo disbanded in 2016, supposedly over a disagreement about the role of their manager.’’

Ogungbe said: “The fighting between the P-Square will not bring out anything good; they are brothers and have produced over 100 songs, but they are fighting, it is going to affect their music.”

“I don’t care about what anybody says, it is a bad development for them; they should settle whatever they have against each other.”

“Most Nigerian musicians are very pompous and have no respect; they derive pleasure in fighting which always leads to their downfall. “For me, I want all Nigerian musicians to be successful, that is what I want and pray for. They should succeed,’’ he said.

Ogungbe said that Nigerian musicians should do more to be heard and be reckoned with in the international community.

“The way I want Nigeria music to go is the same way you want Nigeria music to go. I want it to progress and beautiful.”

“I want more artists to make more money so that we can have successful artists; that’s my prayer for Nigeria music industry.”

“Most Nigeria musicians making waves now are not better than those in the remote, but they must do more to be heard.”

“For me as a producer, I will pick those I know that can make a wave and elevate me competitively, because there is a lot of competitiveness in the industry now,’’ he said.

Ogungbe also advised the upcoming artists to be patient and learn the rope before they shot themselves into the limelight, adding that there were lots of improvements in the music industry.

“Everybody is an upcoming artist. I don’t know what to say when you refer to yourself as an upcoming artist, you need patience.”

“There is a lot of improvement in the industry that makes people want to join the industry and the industry needs money. “Our artists need to learn the ropes and not just wake up in the industry to sing; they need money, at least money to record their products.”

“The best music will be heard, the best person will be heard; even some people up there, you will see that there are many things happening,’’ he said.

The twins brothers came to limelight in 2001 after they won the “Grab Da Mic Competition and since then have not looked back churning out back-to-back hit songs.

The duet singers and dancers equally released hit song “Get squared’’ in 2005 which topped number one position on the MTV Base Chart for four consecutive weeks.

They also dropped another hit song “Game Over’’ which was claimed to have sold about eight million copies worldwide.

Jimmy Kimmel Surprises BTS Fans and Their Moms While Live Interview Is Reportedly Canceled

As a.k.a. BTS is set to hold an outdoor mini concert on “” on Wednesday, November 15, to see a long line of fans of the popular K-Pop group queuing outside the studio is definitely not surprising. In fact, many fans have camped out in line for days to see the seven-piece group. For those dedicated fans, along with their moms, prepared a hilarious surprise.”BTS is very very popular, and we want to have some fun with that. So, we went to the line outside and we found moms were waiting in line with their daughters,” Kimmel said in his monologue. “We brought the moms inside and introduced them to the boys in BTS. Well, if you think you’re mad, wait until you find out how mad their daughters were.”

Two moms of superfans were later brought into the studio, where they video-called their daughters. The fans didn’t have any idea that their moms were surrounded by their idols before the camera panned to the South Korean heartthrobs, making the fans freak out. One of the moms jokingly said to her daughter, “Sucks to be you!”

When asked about her feelings knowing that her moms got to see BTS when she didn’t, one of the daughter fans admitted that she was “a little bit jealous.” One of the moms shared, “I’m very excited, very nervous and very lucky to be the one.” Jimmy quipped, “If you think about it, you’re almost as lucky as your daughters unlucky for not meeting them.”

Meanwhile, a new report suggests that BTS’ live interview on the late-night show may be canceled. Ticket holders reportedly got email from iota, a ticketing site which sells tickets for both the mini-concert and live interview, which reads, “So sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Monday, November 20, 2017 @ 4.15 PM taping of CANCELLED: Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, November 20, 2017 has indeed been canceled.” The site continues saying, “This is always frustrating. Because television is such an ever-changing industry, these things do happen from time to time.”

The alleged cancellation reportedly is related to surgery of Kimmel’s son. However, it should be noted that there is no official statement regarding the cancellation as of now.

While the fate of the group’s live interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” remains to be seen, BTS’ outdoor mini-concert on the show is set to air on November 29.

And the Winner of ‘Project Runway’ Season 16 Is…

In the second part finale of “” season 16, the show found its winner. In Thursday, November 16 episode, , Nina Garcia, Zac Posen and guest judge crowned one of the finalists, including Brandon Kee, Ayana Ife, Margarita Alvarez and Kentaro Kameyama, as “the next great American designer.” [SPOILER ALERT!] The finalists arrived at New York Fashion Week and were ready to show off their 10-look collections before the judges. Among the attendance were all the other season 16 designers, some season 16 guest judges and former “Project Runway” contestants.

First showing off her collection was Ayana, who titled her collection “Evolution”. Dominated by gray, her collection was highly praised by the judges. Zac said he loved how Ayana could dress women in forms of modesty, yet still were hip. Nina echoed Zac’s remark, saying that she was impressed by the collection, which went from athletic wear to “precious” gown. However, Nina noted that she wished there were more colors added in the brilliant collection.

Through his collection, named “Fish Out of Water”, Margarita perfectly showed the judges and the world that she’s all about vibrancy. The colorful collection was meant to contain her energy, passion and color as she hoped that they all delivered well to the judges. Margarita didn’t have to worry about it since Zac dubbed her collection spectacular and “joyous.” Jessica gushed that it looked sexy, sensual and Latina. It was all flawless until Jazzmine ripped off her sarong on the runway and revealed a bathing suit beneath.

Kentaro said that he didn’t think about the competition too much, adding that he just wanted to offer something beautiful with his collection. It seemed like his intention reached out to everyone in the room as everyone was extremely quite during Kentaro’s collection. Heidi even joked that they could “hear a mouse fart in the room.” She loved the variety of silhouettes offered in the collection, while Jessica gushed over Kentaro’s Japanese touch in the collection.

Brandon called his collection “Layers of Love” and explained that it’s inspired by his girlfriend Dina. Dominated by lovely pink color, his collection oozed romance and love. Zac said that the collection was strong, but was not a great runway show. Heidi added that it would be better if Brandon had a different color mixed in.

All the four contestants finished showing off their beautiful and inspiring collections, but there was only one winner in every competition. And the winner of season 16 of the Lifetime show is…. Kentaro! Congratulations!

“Throughout all these weeks, I have seen you really work hard, be very determined and then finally surprise us,” Nina told Kentaro. Jessica added, “I am just thrilled to see such a talent come to life. How you express yourself, it’s really beautiful.”

Kentaro weighed in on his victory, saying, “Winning ‘Project Runway’ is like a dream come true.” He added, “Probably I’m going to have a little more opportunity, but I’ll just keep myself humble and work hard and do my best.”

Pip Ahoy! follows the adventures of an eager happy-go-lucky young pup called Pip and his best friend Alba the kitten around the colourful and enchanting seaside resort of Salty Cove. Aimed at pre-school children from the age of two, Pip Ahoy! brings fun and laughter into every home with a mixture of the extraordinary and the familiar. Salty Cove boasts everything a proper seaside resort should have – a sandy beach with little coves and pools to visit, along with welcoming beach huts and a sunny promenade with its parade of shops of all kind. To one end of the cove is an observatory manned by the brainy and erudite Professor Evie, and to the other end a lighthouse stands overlooking a boatyard, which contains several crafts of various shapes and sizes. Some of these belong to the most respected inhabitant of Salty Cove, the redoubtable Captain Skipper, Pip’s uncle.

The folk that live in this idyllic place are as motley a crew as you could imagine from Pasty, the acquisitive crab with an extraordinary collection of bric-a-brac, Hopper, the one legged acrophobic seagull with big ambition and little gumption, Madame Éclair, a French poodle of high-breeding and exquisite taste in confectionary and cakes, Mrs Twitcher, a keen birdwatcher and Salty Cove’s very own taxi driver, a colony of rather well spoken puffins clustered around an island offshore and a flock of seagulls, Kevin, Cyril and Percy who make mischief. A quintet of singing limpets, the Squiblets, pop up from time to time to warble a brief barber’s shop type harmony and beneath the waves, resides a drummer of multi-limbed capability, the renowned Rocktopus.

Tune into Pip Ahoy! weekday mornings at 7am on Channel 5’s Milkshake.

Avere Helps ToonBox Entertainment Launch Its First Feature-Length Film

PITTSBURGH, PA – August 6, 2014Avere Systems, a leading provider of enterprise storage for the hybrid cloud, today announced that ToonBox Entertainment, Canada’s leading animation studio, is using Avere FXT Series Edge filers to speed up workflow performance and enable fast, cost-effective scaling to meet their production demands. ToonBox looked to Avere to help solve its storage-performance slowdown issues during production of “The Nut Job,” the studio’s first feature-length animated film that features the voice talents of Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl, Will Arnett and Brendan Fraser.

“Before Avere, we were experiencing a delay in the delivery of fast storage media from our storage vendor,” explained Greg Whynott, manager of Systems and IT at ToonBox. “Although the components were not critical during the early stages of production, we knew our existing configuration could not support late-stage workloads.”

In the animation world, every project eventually leads to “crunch time,” that point in a production where artists and systems are working in overdrive to run final renders, polish shots and adjust scenes for final review. To solve this issue, ToonBox deployed an Avere FXT Edge filer cluster in front of the studio’s existing storage array.

“Deploying an Avere cluster into our production environment more than doubled throughput,” explained Whynott. “We had been implementing QoS procedures on our network switches to manage bandwidth allocation, but with the Avere cluster in place, we were able to stop those processes and simply let jobs run – there was sufficient bandwidth for all workflows.

“With the Avere solution in place, productivity shot through the roof. Jobs that previously took hours to run were completed in 20 minutes, responsiveness to workstations dramatically improved and we were able to scale storage non-disruptively,” said Whynott. “Furthermore, the Avere system paid for itself. When you consider how quickly costs accelerate if artists can’t work or we miss deadlines, it’s a very real return. Avere gives us tremendous flexibility to meet the performance demands of the business.”

“Fast, cost-effective and non-disruptive storage scaling is crucial for companies like ToonBox Entertainment. In the end, artists want to be able to focus on rendering and not worry about load times or IT maintenance,” said Ron Bianchini, president and CEO of Avere Systems.
